If you head out without your dog learning the basic dog obedience commands, you are putting your dog at risk. Not only should your dog respect you as his leader, but he should know and follow the basic dog obedience commands, such as, “sit, stop, and stay.”

Once your dog performs these commands faithfully, your dog is still not ready to venture to the park or anywhere there will be people until he has been through a socialization process.

You will want to slowly introduce your dog to people, other dogs, and any other situations that may scare your dog. Start by going for a walk. Make sure to take along his all natural dog treat so you can reward him when he handles a new situation well.
Once you are comfortable with his dog obedience and socialization skills, you can venture to the park for some fun this spring.
