Christmas Time is the Time of Giving – Even to your Pets!

Friday, December 18th, 2009

This Christmas, surprise your pet with the gift of health.  The gift of health does not have to be boring.  In fact, there are many fun and “yummy” all natural gifts you can give your dog or cat.  While the children are opening their gifts, a gift basket for your pet can keep him or her out of some serious trouble!  If you don’t have children living at home, it can be fun to have someone to give a gift to on Christmas morning.

There are many different kinds of treats out there available for your dog or cat.   Be careful going for the cutest gift, as this could be the most dangerous.  There are not only choking hazards to be careful about, but some of the ingredients in many of the “cheaper and cuter” treats or bones can be unhealthy for your pet.

If you do not have any pets, maybe you know someone who enjoys spoiling their furry friend.  Pet Food Café offers a variety of gift baskets for dogs and cats that are filled with all natural pet food.  We have not forgotten the toys!  Dogs and cats both love to play, and we understand their need for fun.

Try out our fun and healthy gift baskets for your pet this Christmas!  Your dog or cat will love you even more, if that is even possible!

Natural Pet Food can help to Prevent Painful Gingivitis in Cats and Dogs

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

People are not the only ones who can experience the painful gum disease, Gingivitis.  Cats and dogs are also susceptible when their gums and teeth are not properly taken care of.  Many people do not take the time to care for their pet’s teeth.  It is just something people do not think to do until there is a problem.

When you think of the reason dogs or cats get Gingivitis, one of the main reasons you probably think of is brushing their teeth.  This is a common reason, but another very common reason is poor nutrition.  Traditional dog and cat foods contain sugars and refined carbohydrates, saturated fats, a lot of salt, and wheat, all of which can lead to Gingivitis.  All natural pet food can help to prevent this painful disease because it contains the vitamins and minerals necessary for optimal dental health.  All natural pet food lacks the artificial flavorings and other unnecessary ingredients found in commercial brand pet food.

How can you tell if your cat or dog ahs Gingivitis?  While a common symptom for Gingivitis is red and swollen gums, you cannot definitively determine this is Gingivitis as this is a symptom of many other diseases.  If you suspect Gingivitis, it is important to contact your pet’s veterinarian.

Preventing Gingivitis is the best thing you can do for your pet.  Simple steps can be taken to ensure a healthy life for your pet.  Brush your pet’s teeth by wiping the tartar buildup each day.  Try using an all natural daily liquid that can go right into your pet’s water.  You can find this on our website.

The next best thing you can do to prevent Gingivitis is to switch to an all natural pet food.  Your pet will be healthy overall and will love you for the yummy all natural treats that are available!
Christmas is just around the corner!  Visit our website for a variety of gift baskets for your dog or cat!

Switch to All Natural Dog Food to Prevent Allergies

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Food allergies are more common in dogs than you might expect.  If your dog starts scratching at his paws or ears or anywhere in between, the culprit could be in the food you are feeding him.   Many store brand dog foods contain chemicals and artificial colorings that can contribute to allergies.  Allergic reactions can be mild to severe.

Allergies are an abnormal immune system reaction to an ingredient that is found in your dog’s food.  These reactions will cause allergy symptoms from mild to severe.  Some of the mild symptoms your dog might have are:  nose and eyes discharge, vomiting, coughing, sneezing, itching, hair loss, and loss of appetite.  Some of the more severe symptoms include:  difficulty breathing, rashes, swelling of the tongue or throat, hives, and headaches.

Dogs can be allergic to different foods, such as: dairies, fish, proteins, wheat, corn, and soy.  These are only a few things that they can be allergic to.  It can be a frustrating process to find the actual culprit.  One of the easiest ways to try to prevent dog food allergies is to switch over to an all natural dog food.  An all natural dog food does not contain preservatives, chemicals, and artificial colorings.

This is an excellent start to helping to prevent dog food allergies.  However, it is important to understand that just because you have switched over to an all natural dog food does not mean your dog is not allergic to this food, as well.  If your dog is allergic to beef, then any all natural dog food containing beef will be a problem.

An all natural dog food is the best place to start because it eliminates a lot of the ingredients that are commonly known to cause allergies.  Wouldn’t it be great if this is all it takes to prevent your dog from being miserable?

Pet Food Café is here to help you raise a healthy and happy pet so you can enjoy life together for a very long time.  Our all natural pet food, all natural pet supplies, and training tips will ensure your dog or cat has the best life possible.

Cold Weather Tips for Dogs: Keep them Warm this Winter

Monday, December 7th, 2009

It is that time of year again.  The weather is dipping to freezing cold temperatures.  Here are some tips to make sure your dog is protected during these cold winter months.

If you have an indoor pet, do not expect he can withstand the freezing temps any better than you can.  Your pet must build up a thicker coat and their footpads need to toughen up for snow and ice.

Do not ever leave your pets outdoors without being watched when the temperatures dip to below freezing.  Dog’s that get too cold can develop hypothermia or frostbite, especially on their ear tips.

Dogs that have very short coats will have less tolerance for the cold.  It is recommended to have a sweater on these dogs to help them keep their body heat in while being outdoors.

Many times dogs cannot stand the ice and snow on their paws.  If you notice your dog lifting his paws frequently or whining and stopping when he walks, he simply cannot stand the cold.  There are dog boots available to help keep their paws from freezing outdoors.  It is important to get your dog used to these boots before the cold weather hits.

Ice balls can also form in your dogs paws.  This can be very painful.  Dogs will whine and often stop walking and start chewing at their feet.  To help prevent this from happening, trim the hair around your dog’s feet.  Put a small amount of Vaseline to your dog’s feet.

Feed your dog an all natural healthy dog food and give him all natural supplements to help build up his immune system to protect him from common cold illnesses.

Remember, your dog deserves to be warm – just like you.  If you can, keep your dog indoors with you as much as possible.

Cold Weather Tips for Cats: Keep them Warm this Winter

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Winter is almost here.  The cold weather is coming and you need to be more aware of the temperatures.  Since cats have a litter box, it is recommended that the cats simply stay inside during the cold winter months.

However if your cat is an outdoor lover, make sure he has a warm place to go and has an all natural cat food to keep him healthy during these months.  Also be sure to keep fresh water in a warm place so that it does not freeze.

Consider only allowing them to go outdoors for a couple of hours.  Then call them back in so you know where they are.

Cats have a higher risk of getting seriously hurt because they tend to crawl up into warm places like a car engine.  When the engine is started up, the cat can be injured seriously or even killed by the fan blade or belt.

Your cat will be safer when kept indoors during these months.  When your cat does go outdoors, make sure you always know where he is before you start your vehicle or any other piece of machinery.

Stock up on all natural supplements for your cat.  This will help to ensure your cat has a strong immune system to ward off any common illnesses due to the cold.  Don’t forget to provide a high quality healthy cat food, as well.

Remember, the best place for your cat this winter is inside with you.  But, if your cat does like the outdoors, follow these cold weather tips to be sure he is safe this winter.
